PATRIARCHAL INSTRUCTION ON THE RITE FOR NEW PORTERS
Following their ordination, new Porters should proceed, once all
rites and liturgy have been completed for the ordination to the Order
of Porter, to the doors of the church. There they should open and
close the doors and then ring the church bell. They are led to the
doors and assisted by the Archdeacon or some other appointed cleric.
The new Porter wears cassock, surplice, and, if the ordination takes
place outside the mass, the zucchetto.
